Make a Plate: The Documentation of a Family Archive

As a child, I grew up surrounded by more family than I could remember the names for. My dad was one of twelve children and also one of the youngest of his siblings. My father and his siblings are getting older and since we have lost some family members, the urge to document family history has become more pressing than ever. Make a Plate documents family history through narrative and food. As a family in the Midwest, food and acts of service are a huge part of our family culture and a major way we show care for one another. 

Using an alternative photographic process called cyanotype, these "famous" family recipes are immortalized in their various forms, showcasing personality in handwriting and different writing voices.
